I have been buying motorcycle tyres for 20 years now and have always opted for the best tyres i could afford. When i say 'best' i mean the most sticky and haven't worried about durability.
This has changed now since becoming a motorcycle courier and expect to fit a new rear tyre every 10-12 thousand miles and four times a year and front every 15,000 miles so the life has become an important factor for me.
My Pan European st1100 came with bridgestone 020's, tyres i was very happy with and wanted to renew until i discovered they had been discontinued and replaced with the Bridgestone 021.
Although Bridgestone had always been my favourite tyre choice i read some alarming reports on the new 021 that some weren't wearing correctly which concerned me. This may have been down to peoples riding styles / a faulty batch, I'm not sure but i decided to look at different tyre choices this time round.
I belong to a Pan European st1100 forum and read many reports from members regarding the best tyres available from the major manufacturers and found that Avon had just released a new tyre called the Storm which suited the Pan European, had excellent reviews from members so this is the tyre i would choose.
I ordered the tyres from www.biketyresleeds.co.uk , they gave excellent friendly customer service at an affordable price and the tyres arrived the next day. Brilliant service and a company i would recommend.
The new tyres came with a thicker than usual wax coating so caution for the first 150 miles.
I have covered 5000 miles so far on these and have honestly found them to be more grippy than the Bridgestones. Usually this type of tyre will not last as long but they are wearing very well at the moment considering most of my mileage is upright motorway riding. I will keep you updated on the AVON STORM tyre and report back after 10,000 miles,
Take care, Chris http://www.northamptonmotorcyclecouriers.co.uk/
